Jackie Mitto & The Soul Brothers - Last Train To Skaville

Nacido en Kingston, Jamaica, Jackie Mittoo era un pianista verdaderamente prodigioso que con 14 años ya había empezado a tocar profesionalmente con sus propias bandas, The Sheiks y The Rivals, cuando se encuentra por primera vez con Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, propietario de los Studio One Records. Coxsone le invita a tocar en una sesión en el Studio One y pronto Jackie lo empieza a hacer regularmente. Poco después un grupo de esos músicos de sesión decide formar su propia banda, y nacen The Skatalites. Jackie Mittoo fue uno de sus miembros fundadores, uno de los más importantes grupos en la historia del reggae. Inventaron el ska, el primer estilo en surgir de la recientemente independizada isla. Jackie Mittoo tenía 15 años cuando empiezan los Skatalites.
En 1965, The Skatalites se separan, y Jackie Mittoo, junto con Roland Alphonso, forman The Soul Brothers, que grabarían con su nombre además de convertirse en la banda residente en el Studio One.
Como líder de las bandas residentes en Studio One (The Soul Brothers, The Soul Vendors, The Sound Dimension), Jackie Mittoo tocó, escribió y arregló temas para numerosos cantantes en el Studio One, como Ken Boothe, Alton Ellis, Marcia Griffiths, Delroy Wilson y The Heptones.
En 1989 se refundan los Skatalites para apoyar a Bunny Wailer en su gira. Por un corto período, antes de la enfermedad que pondrá fin a su vida, Jackie Mittoo vuelve a tocar con sus músicos y amigos de siempre. Muere de cáncer el 16 de Diciembre de 1990, con sólo 42 años.




Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Jackie Mittoo was a truly wonderful pianist with 14 years andhad started playing professionally with his own band, The Sheiks and The Rivals, when itfirst encounters with Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, owner of Studio One Records. Coxsoneinvited to play at a session at Studio One and soon it begins to make Jackie regularly.Soon after, a group of these session musicians decided to form his own band, TheSkatalites born. Jackie Mittoo was one of its founding members, one of the most important groups in the history of reggae. They invented ska, the first style to emergefrom the newly independent island. Jackie Mittoo was 15 when starting the Skatalites.
In 1965, The Skatalites are separated, and Jackie Mittoo, Roland Alphonso, together with form The Soul Brothers, who would record his name as well as becoming the house band at Studio One
As leader of the band living in Studio One (The Soul Brothers, The Soul Vendors, TheSound Dimension), Jackie Mittoo played, wrote and arranged songs for many singers at Studio One, as Ken Boothe, Alton Ellis, Marcia Griffiths, Delroy Wilson and TheHeptones.
In 1989 he merged the Skatalites to support Bunny Wailer on tour. For a short periodbefore the disease that will end his life, Jackie Mittoo to play again with his musiciansand friends forever. Died of cancer on December 16, 1990, with only 42 years.

Roland Alphonso - Best Of Studio One

Recordando a Roland Alphonso, en su 12° aniversario de fallecido, les traemos este album con un compilado de sus interpretaciones en su saxo.
Cabe recordar que fue uno de los miembros fundadores de la legendaria banda The Skatalites.
Rolando partió de esta vida el 20 de noviembre, a mediodia, todavía en un coma, debido a una hemorragia cerebral. Él cayo en el escenario del Importante Club Sunset Boulevard en California durante la segunda canción de la actuación de Skatalites el 2 de noviembre.Así como Roland terminó su solo en "Eastern Standard Time", él se cayó de espaldas sobre el escenario. Fue asistido rápidamente y dentro de minutos estaba a punto de abordar una ambulancia cuando según la banda, él empezó a hablar, declarando, "yo estoy bien, yo no quiero ir".La recuperación de Roland empezó casi inmediatamente y él habló a su familia cada día desde hospital, Cedro-Sinai, el Centro Médico en Los Angeles.El 17 de noviembre, Roland empezo la terapia física, sin embargo según su hija Michele, que él sufrió otro ataque y se cayo en un coma del hemorragia. Después de que él estaba a 3 dias sin responder, la familia tomo la decisión de terminar el soporte de vida .Rolando Alphonso a los 67 años ya descansaba.

Remembering to Roland Alphonso, at its 12th anniversary of the deceased, i bring this album with of his perfomance in his sax.
It should be remembered that it was one of the founding members of legendary band The Skatalites.Rolando departed this life Nov. 20, at noon, still in a coma due to cerebral hemorrhage.He fell on the stage of Important Club Sunset Boulevard in California during the second song of the performance of the Skatalites on 2 November. And Roland finished his solo on "Eastern Standard Time", he fell back on stage. He was assisted quickly and within minutes I was about to board an ambulance when according to the band, he began to speak, saying, "I'm fine, I do not want to go." Roland's recovery began almost immediately and he spoke to his family each day from hospital, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.El November 17, Roland began physical therapy, but according to his daughter Michele, he suffered another attack and fell into a coma from bleeding.After he was 3 days without reply, the family took the decision to terminate life support. Rolando Alphonso at age 67 and rested.

Freddie McKay - Picture On The Wall [1971]

Les traemos un album del "Mister Reggae", Freddie Mckay, buena musica con algunos temas de rocksteady, quizas fue poco conocido pero tuvo sus canciones que alcanzaron popularidad en Jamaica. 

Su primera grabacion fue producida por Prince Buster en 1967, pero su primer exito viene del mismo año con la cancion "Love Is a Treasure", grabado para el sello Duke Reid' Treasure Isle.

McKay fallece el 19 de noviembre de 1986 por un ataque al corazon.

We Bring you an album of "mr. Reggae" Freddie McKay, good music with some tunes in rocsteady, maybe it was someone little known but had his songs that became popular in Jamaica.

McKay firts recorder for producer Prince Buster in 1967, his firts hit coming the same year with "Love Is A Treasure", recorder for Duke Reid's Treasure Isle set-up.

McKay died in november 19 of 1986, from a heart attack.
