El mes de mayo es en el que han fallecido varias leyendas de Jamaica, artistas que han aportado mucho a la historia de la musica de la hermosa isla.
Un tributo para que recordemos a estos grandes que aun viven en su legado.

The Clarendonians - The Best Of The Clarendonians

Su historia comienza en 1965 desde Clarendon - Jamaica, donde unos jóvenes Fitzroy “Ernest” Wilson y Peter Austin engendrarían The Clarendonians. La dupla fue ganando muchos premios populares, cosa que ocasionó llamar la atención de un ambicioso productor Clement Coxone Dodd, dueño de Studio One; quien los llevo a estudio y les dio el empujón que necesitaban para levantar su carrera musical.

En 1965 empiezan con “You Can`t Keep A Good Man Down”, pero 1966 es su año cúspide, en el cual tienen la mayoría de sus éxitos como “Rude boy Gona Jail”, “Rudie Bam Bam”, “You Won`t See Me”, “Musical Train”, “You Can`t Be Happy”, entre otros.
En 1967 vuelven a subirse con “Shoo Be Doo Be” y “Sweet Heart Of Beauty”.

Mas adelante, debido al éxito de los tríos vocales Dodd decide incluir una voz mas, la cual se hace presente con Freddie McGregor, quien aún era un niño de 7 años y necesitaba de una tarima para alcanzar el micrófono. A pesar de ello, el grupo sigue grabando como un dúo, McGregor con Wilson grabaron como Freddie and Fritzie y McGregor con Austin como Freddie and Peter.

En 1972 se disuelve la banda y cada uno toma su carrera como solista. Ernest Wilson publica algunos singles como “Storybook Children” y “If I Were A Carpenter”, seguiría latente hasta los años 90s masomenos. McGregor también tiene una carrera por delante, siendo en los 70s un gran nombre para la escena del reggae.

His story begins in 1965 from Clarendon - Jamaica, where some young Fitzroy "Ernest" Wilson and Peter Austin engender The Clarendonians. The duo was popular winning many awards, which caused the attention of an ambitious producer Clement Dodd Coxon, owner of Studio One, who led them to study and gave them the push they needed to lift his career.

In 1965 begin with "You Can` t Keep A Good Man Down ", but 1966 is their year peak, which have most of their hits including" Rude Boy Gona Jail, "" Rudie Bam Bam "," You Won ` t See Me, "" Music Train "," You Can `t Be Happy," among others.
Climb again in 1967 with "Shoo Be Doo Be" and "Sweet Heart Of Beauty."

Later, due to the success of the vocal trio Dodd decides to include a voice over, which is present with Freddie McGregor, who was still a child of 7 years and needed a platform to reach the microphone. However, the group is still recording as a duo, with Wilson recorded as McGregor Freddie McGregor and Fritzie and with Freddie and Peter Austin.

In 1972 he dissolved the band and each one takes his solo career. Ernest Wilson publishes some singles like "Storybook Children" and "If I Were A Carpenter" would still dormant until the 90s or so. McGregor also has a career ahead of him, being in the 70s a great name for the reggae scene.

Lynn Taitt & The Jets - Anthology 1965-1973

Un año despues de su muerte, compartimos su musica, su legado, su historia...
Lo que es dificil de creer es que Nerlynn Taitt no era jamaiquino, pues el nacio en San Fernando, Trinidad & Tobago, y a la edad de 14 años ya tocaba de manera espectacular la guitarra en varios eventos, alcanzo tal fama que llego a oidos de el gran Byron Lee, siendo invitado por este para algunos actos festivos de la recien lograda independencia jamaiquina en 1962. Alli conoce el nuevo sonido, el ska, y tambien a sus estrellas del momento como Tommy McCook, Baba Brooks, Don Drummond, entre otros, y con los que algunos tuvo la oportunidad de grabar.
Tuvo sus bandas pero la que le dio su primer exito fue The Comets, y The Jets fue la banda con la que tuvo mayor reconocimiento.
Sus ultimos dos años los vivio apartado de la musica luchando contra un fuerte cancer, que acabo con su vida el 20 de enero del 2010, a la edad de 75 años en la ciudad de  Montreal, Canada.
Una leyenda mas que invitamos a recordar, aunque es muy claro que sus melodias nunca quedaran en el olvido.

What is hard to believe is that Nerlynn Taitt was not Jamaican, because he was born inSan Fernando, Trinidad & Tobago, at the age of 14 years and dramatically playedguitar in various events, achieved such fame that came to the ears of the great ByronLee, being invited by this for some events in celebration of Jamaican independence in 1962. There he meets the new sound, ska, and also to their stars of the moment asTommy McCook, Baba Brooks, Don Drummond, among others, and with what somehad the opportunity to record.

Jackie Mitto & The Soul Brothers - Last Train To Skaville

Nacido en Kingston, Jamaica, Jackie Mittoo era un pianista verdaderamente prodigioso que con 14 años ya había empezado a tocar profesionalmente con sus propias bandas, The Sheiks y The Rivals, cuando se encuentra por primera vez con Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, propietario de los Studio One Records. Coxsone le invita a tocar en una sesión en el Studio One y pronto Jackie lo empieza a hacer regularmente. Poco después un grupo de esos músicos de sesión decide formar su propia banda, y nacen The Skatalites. Jackie Mittoo fue uno de sus miembros fundadores, uno de los más importantes grupos en la historia del reggae. Inventaron el ska, el primer estilo en surgir de la recientemente independizada isla. Jackie Mittoo tenía 15 años cuando empiezan los Skatalites.
En 1965, The Skatalites se separan, y Jackie Mittoo, junto con Roland Alphonso, forman The Soul Brothers, que grabarían con su nombre además de convertirse en la banda residente en el Studio One.
Como líder de las bandas residentes en Studio One (The Soul Brothers, The Soul Vendors, The Sound Dimension), Jackie Mittoo tocó, escribió y arregló temas para numerosos cantantes en el Studio One, como Ken Boothe, Alton Ellis, Marcia Griffiths, Delroy Wilson y The Heptones.
En 1989 se refundan los Skatalites para apoyar a Bunny Wailer en su gira. Por un corto período, antes de la enfermedad que pondrá fin a su vida, Jackie Mittoo vuelve a tocar con sus músicos y amigos de siempre. Muere de cáncer el 16 de Diciembre de 1990, con sólo 42 años.




Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Jackie Mittoo was a truly wonderful pianist with 14 years andhad started playing professionally with his own band, The Sheiks and The Rivals, when itfirst encounters with Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, owner of Studio One Records. Coxsoneinvited to play at a session at Studio One and soon it begins to make Jackie regularly.Soon after, a group of these session musicians decided to form his own band, TheSkatalites born. Jackie Mittoo was one of its founding members, one of the most important groups in the history of reggae. They invented ska, the first style to emergefrom the newly independent island. Jackie Mittoo was 15 when starting the Skatalites.
In 1965, The Skatalites are separated, and Jackie Mittoo, Roland Alphonso, together with form The Soul Brothers, who would record his name as well as becoming the house band at Studio One
As leader of the band living in Studio One (The Soul Brothers, The Soul Vendors, TheSound Dimension), Jackie Mittoo played, wrote and arranged songs for many singers at Studio One, as Ken Boothe, Alton Ellis, Marcia Griffiths, Delroy Wilson and TheHeptones.
In 1989 he merged the Skatalites to support Bunny Wailer on tour. For a short periodbefore the disease that will end his life, Jackie Mittoo to play again with his musiciansand friends forever. Died of cancer on December 16, 1990, with only 42 years.
